Plot:
Based on the Steve Niles graphic novel. In a sleepy, secluded Alaska town called Barrow, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen...( read more

Was pretty good. The only thing I had a problem with was the very end, why is she looking all pissed of at the sun? Is that so they can do a sequel?
For my money, the best campire movie ever made. An interesting twist on the vampire concept, having vampires discover an Alaskan town where the sun doesn't shine for 30 days, allowing them to go on a feeding frenzy. My only issues with the movie are that there are a few lapses in logic. Like falling for a trick that wasn't fell for 30 minutes before. Or the fact that, apparently vampires can't see footprints in the snow. Or the fact that somehow one can apparently climb under a truck in the snow and leave no marks in the snow. Other than those few nitpicks, this is a very well made movie. Very atmospheric, intense and dramatic. Excellent story, well acted, well shot, good tension build up. Highly recommended.
A remote Alaskan town that endures a month of darkness once a year is cut off by a pack of predatory vampires. Josh Hartnett heads up a group of similarly bland survivors who run through snow covered streets/huddle in deserted buildings/repeat to fade. The vampires are of the feral pack animal variety and do little more than squawk and hiss and leap through the air as they pick off our stereotypical heroes and so are just as uninteresting. Mark Boone Junior is the least dreary of the bunch, and the scene where he decides to go on the offensive is easily the best, but he and it are far too short lived. There are some decent effects and a few nice images of blood stained snow, but right through to the anti-climactic ending, there's little here to distinguish it from the untold undead hordes of faceless, forgettable vampire movies.
Okkay. This movie was okay. It pissed me off when Billy got it, and I thought the ending sucked. Good plotline and setting though.
It had some interesting parts but all in all.. It didn't keep my attention... and that's strange for a horror/vampire movie.
Of all the Vampire movies I've seen, I like this one the best. The story is well played out with the setting being in Alaska in which they have many days of darkness. The Vampires just come out of no where and speaking some other language. They even look creepy with those darken eyes. claw-like nails and all there teeth are canine-like. Also a surprise ending, mostly the hero survives but instead gives up his life for two others which made it a little romantic. The movie was filled with a good amount of gore, action and surprises.
what a movie the twist at the end is one ive never thought josh harnett could push himself that far vampires are cool in this one sometimes i caught myself thinkiing were is blade
Full marks to the cast and crew involved in making this movie. It is a tense thriller which doesn't rely on special effects to relate it's dark and sinister tale. Granted the effects are superb when they appear but it is the tension created that really makes this movie one to watch. In an age where horror movies are either not scary or just downright obscene, this one ranks among some of the best. It's intelligent and realistic portrayal of the vampire as a remnant of something human yet the purest of evil is very creepy indeed. Another important aspect to the film is the Alaskan scenery, photographed here to highlight it's exquisite finery. Once it's dark, you don't really care but there is some wonderful photography here.
I really enjoyed this movie ,it's so different than the other Vampires movies..very unique a must see..
Obvious idea, but the setting in Alaska makes it interesting. A lot of familiar situations in this film, but so what? I didn't feel like I wasted my time watching it.
Stupid movie :S the graphic nature of the movie is ok. but there are so many holes in the movie. so many things are just out of proportion in it. humans seem very comfortable to outrun the vampires when they want to. the vampires can smell blood but they cant do it from behind the door where josh hartnett n his gf are hiding. i mean i can go on about it :S the script represents alota potential but its been made a mess out of completely :s
a REALLY good vampire movie. most of them are really crap and old and don't portray vampires well enough. but i love the mystry to this movie and the end was really sad. D:
great...don't know what else to say,you know vampires it's not like if there was something exceptional with those ones...but good action :)
Very cool vampire action-flick. Just loved the savage killings troughout the film (finally a more a recent film with sufficient gore content). Danny Huston was brilliant, the rest..didn't care for as I was rooting for the vampires. The ending wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but could have been much better i.e. the vampires accomplishing what they set out to do in the first place. Also considering the films length there was too much focus on the humans (who I had no sympathy for whatsoever). Nevertheless beats about 90% of Action films containing vampires.
I'm a bit here and there regarding this movie. As far as blood and guts vampire flicks go, I suppose it satiates a craving, but it could've been put together better.
For one, the lead vampire's soliloquies were just peculiar and hardly made sense in the grand scheme of things.
For two, they hardly acted like vampires at all! They went around chomping people's heads off, but didn't seem to be drinking the blood. Why on earth not? I get the feeling I might've missed some central theme to this movie, apart from the whole "me vampire, you soft and squishy *om nom nom nom*" thing.
Not to mention the ending was utterly depressing (I've been noticing that about horror movies lately. Why do they always have those miserable endings? Not just in that typical "Monsters come, everybody dies" way, but in the "Here, come to sympathise with this character so that when he gets all self-sacrificial at the end you can bawl your eyes out over his beautiful corpse" way. Buzzkill).
Other than those points and the abundance of annoying characters acting like idiots (there are rules for vampire invasions, you guys! Follow them!), this movie's a fun one to watch late at night with a group of friends and all the lights turned off.
Wow.
I have been wanting to see this movie for quite some time and boy am I glad I did.
This film is about a town in northern Alaska where it becomes Night for 30 days. Well in that time a group of vampires go to the town and decide to kill everybody in the town. Well their is a group of people that basically hide out through the whole movie.
This group don't ever really fight back, which in this type of movie may seem weird but it actually makes the movie so much more better. Your watching the movie thinking that their is no way that they could do anything to survive, except just wait for 30 days. Then they do something that I didn't even think about doing because I was just so rapt up in what was going on with the film.
Now that dosn't mean that their arent any errors with the film.
They never say where the vampires came from, which I guess if you don't have a good explenation then its better not to say anything at all. The people are stupid, not all of them, but as all horror movies are it has its share of stupidity. The way they pace the movie just has it to where their is no way you would think it was 30 days. More like 7 days. It goes from day 7 to day 27 in a matter of nothing happening.
But if their is anything (except that its an awsome movie) you should see it just for the last thing. The cinematic beauty that last scene has just stuck with me and probably will always stick with me. It is touching and just makes you go yay and boo at the same time.
The gore in this film, which their is a lot of, is used at the right times all the time. Not to say that the gore wasn't over the top at some parts, to where it may be a little discusting at times. Its a good use of not to much like Saw use of gore.
Now to talk about the directing, I thought the shots were absolutey amazing. The overhead shots of the town, and just every shot and angle in general was perfect. If anything their was only one shot that I didn't like, while it may have been more of the more important shots, Its only lasts for a second and you get over it.
So all in all, this was one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen. Im not going to act like I have seen a lot of them but this is a must see in my book. 5/5/
30 Days Of Night has a terrific premise and an intriguing setting, but it's badly let down by poor direction, dismal acting and an appalling script.
Sure theres tons of blood and gore and a high number of ax decapitations, but this flick is basically a chocolate covered turd, as soon as you sink your teeth into it, all you've got is a mouthful of sweetened shit. I generally enjoy vampire flicks, but what can I say, crap is crap, so there you go.
After watching prom night it couldn't get much worse! This film was on the whole ok. The ending was a bit of a shocker!
im not a great horror fan as we all know, so this was more of time waster than interested watch.
everything just screamed average and the lead bad guy was much less than average.
could really get into it and the attempt at a spin on the comic book fell flat.
...i will say this movie took me by surprise...i figured it would not be frightening...but the tension this movie builds keeps you on the edge of your seat...
a wonderful gorefest of blood! one of the goriest vampire films i have ever seen! and it is excellent!
this movies was fuckin great i luv it i luv the way the vampire planned out there attack on the town it loved to grossom parts the way they came out of now i luved that part but in the end none survived which kind of sucked but yeah it was an amazing movie

The movie would make a bit more sense if you people read the graphic novel by Steve Niles. The story is a phenomenom.
Wow. I haven't seen a movie with this level of graphic bloodshed since I last saw Saving Private Ryan. Other than that, I thought it was a great shot in the arm for vampire movies- seriously, if Will Smith had gone up against THESE guys in I Am Legend, NO ONE would have complained about the monsters in that film (in fact, it could have made it one of the best films of the year!).
This was a scary flik. I felt the hopelessness & terror these ppl felt. I kept waiting for the sun to rise to kill them off or scare them away but it NEVER came! They were smart too not your average "Let me suck your blood" vampires. They were scary, intense, intimidating, powerful, Etc. A truly cool flik. I've seen just about every horror flik from the 50's to now & have only felt that fear for the ppl in the flik in a few other fliks. The Shining was one of them.
This flik rocked. If one wants to be scared shitless check this out.
Finally a very bloody & brutal vampire film with an original story to the this genre that feels like a breath of fresh bloody air.Creepy atmosphere, good pace & few cool death scenes.Good performances by the cast, specially from Josh Hartnett.Even a good ending that i wasn't expecting just to make this film one of the best horror films of 2007.
My Opinion is this movie rocks but then again Vampires and werewolves are my favorite myth creatures...
that movie is real good
the only thing i did not like was... why the goddamn vampires suddenly were gone? they didnt fuckin die?
but the fact dat the sheriff had turned into ashes... that was a good one!
I don't know why people say this movie was shit.
This is one of the best vampire movies ...
I do agree the vampires don't look real, but what do you expect? Real looking ones? ... theres no such thing as vampires, so don't expect real ones, but they could be more realistic.. and stop looking like office people.. I found this movie quite good in my opinion..
all the other vampire movies are so old and suck nuts.. and the new ones, are quite boring, for example.. van helsing.. and.. dracula..Blade was alright though. This one was way better than those..It had a secure plot, and it looked amazing.. and the story made sense, if you think about it.
who can tell me the name of the actress which played the female vampire in this movie?
