Its probably not a bad movie, but I hate the theme and the ending is sick(not in a good way)
Its probably not a bad movie but I hate the theme of the movie and the ending so much.
It bored me so much, that I stopped to watch it a bit before the end.
It's really rare that I don't watch a movie till the end.
I'll never understand the huge popularity of it.
The creepiest film i have ever seen. Alex's character is portrayed brilliantly. Definitely Kubrick's best.
One of it's crime. It's a drama, it's a musical, it's a comedy... it's a bit of everything. Fantastic!
This must have been a crazy movie back in the 70's. still great how we see how a man can change. great movie
Old film, but a classic. Mr. Kubrick sent us on a ride through the mind of a sociopath/psychopath and I personally enjoyed every single mile.
visually stunning with narrative that sticks, a resonant score, and everything in between that personifies the genius that is Kubrick
based on the novel by anthony burgess and the director of before "the shining" stanley kubrick with malcolm mcdowell who play alex who is strange looking-wearing and the vicious leader of the hooligan of 3 pals who is hanging out with. so what can i say about this film..i say i like this film so much and this is so weird is it? so i bet is it. very cool close-up camera with alex(malcolm mcdowell)then camera moved back from the open scene.
viddy well little brother viddy well.
What an awesome movie! Real classic! Alex is one of the best movie villains of all times, and the fact that Heath Ledger (r.i.p.) used his character as an inspiration for the role of Joker in The Black Night just adds to this. Btw, there are lots of violence, nudity and sick scenes in the movie. Just to warn you!
A beautifully visceral feast for more senses than thought possible. It took two viewings to get through the whole film, and to two more to get an adequate understanding of some of the different layers. Kubrick was is and always will be the best director of all time.
i HATE STANLEY KUBRICK.
THIS MOVIE IS JUST A REASON TO PUT A HUGE AMOUNT OF NUDITY IN IT.
I FUCKING HATE THIS DIRECTOR.
HE HAS NO VISION AND ALL HIS MOVES ARE SLOW AND TERRIBLE.
NEVER RENT THIS MOVIE...ITS TERRIBLE.
This movie was good. I enjoyed watching it. That's about all I can say. It's weird how you have such an asshole of a character, yet you feel sorry for him in the end. Hmm. But I didn't think this film was disturbing. I have yet to see a disturbing film, but can understand why people say this is.
[New review coming soon]
Such a twisted movie. Exactly what I were to expect from Stanley Kubrick. Great Story, great dialog and just overall, well done. A visual Masterpiece. A must see for...anyone.
if you saw it the way i did, it would appear as no shock
"how do you see it?"
as a hateful crime, bludgeoning mishap, hidden gem being captured in human form. the irony, love, torture, deception, and unseen truth. it's political, yet twisted and dark with rage from the lesser characters and more depth with the main
"that's what it's about but what makes it fantastic?"
it's self defining...
but if that's not enough, than what else can i offer.... the clever whit from dialog, a timeless period, or the exaggerated substance of sex and violence that so desperately wants to escape us. it's under looked as a symbol for freedom...
at that and a bad of nuts, it's a lively staged parry.
how bout i sum with "It's my guilty pleasure"
it's your draw here ______________
it's a futuristic representation of prisoning, the costumes give a vintage look on dread and terror even to a present format. add only a segment shows the perverted essence of a willing cult, it's more of a lead-in or prologue to a greater shot. the violence is not brutal, in fact, it's rather limited. but every biblical reference showed just how true society has become... if you couldn't
grasp and dialog, then welly at you i give my sympathy. the dialog if not familiarized with revived a Shakespearian glow that brought in a narrative within the narrative. it's a unique colossal that's had no duplicate, and near none laziness fu attitude
how does that frost ya? let me be. you disagree with my intent. drop the ran'
SLEUTH WILL BE VIEWED ONCE MORE TO DETERMINE THE "END" RESULT
A brilliant film about the consequences of violence, one of Kubrick's finest work. McDowell shines as delinquent Alex DeLarge.
Oh, he just happens to run in to every single fucking person he wronged when he was a delinquent? Fuck that. This film is pretty screwed up besides that. The only joy I got out of it was figuring out the guy was Mr. McDowell! He's far more awesome now that's he's getting older, but still..
,,alex: one moment of pain perhaps and, then, sleep for ever and ever and ever..."
a clockwork orange is not a classic or a great film. that was my opinion about the movie after the first 30 minutes. and this is the truth: a good (not amazing, not outstanding) performance of malcolm mcdowell and some memorable and interesting scenes! that' s all! the script is poor, the ending sucks, the cinematography is awful! the idea behind the film, to make a violent movie for a good purpose, to stop the violence, is great and it really works. as a lesson of life, a clockwork orange is great! as a film, it' s just an old boring movie!Flixster - Share Movies
A fantastic movie in every sense of the word. Kubrick's best and McDowell's best. This movie is a classic and has to be in my top 10 movies of all time.
A trully ingenious piece of modern film making, utilising juxtaposition to great effect. Notably the Singing in the rain and dancing whilst beating the writer and ravaging his wife. Easily one of the greatest ad libbed scenes in existence in my opinion dwarfing Deniro Mirror scene in Taxi Driver. Kubrick cast this perfectly and did the novella justice
this movie leaves you with an Incomprehensible plot, it makes you think it makes u appresiate the way of movie making by the acting and the intense acting by malcome mcdowel and the amazing writing and directing of stanley kubrick this movie really makes you think and thats what to me is what movies are all about
this is based on Anthony Burgess's disturbing novel about England in the totalitarian future, Malcolm McDowell portrays Alex, a Beethoven-loving, head-bashing punk who leads his gang of droogs on ultra-violent assaults. starring Malcolm McDowell,Patrick Magee,
Michael Bates,Warren Clarke,John Clive and Adrienne Corri. Released in the year 1971. one of the best movies of 1971 and also one of the best movies ever to come out in the 1970s. A Clockwork Orange i think is the best Stanley Kubrick film and this is Stanley Kubrick's greatest ever achievement. a disturbing masterpeice from director Stanley Kubrick.
A bit confusing, and kind of leaves you scratching your head by the end, you still can't deny the art of this movie. If you really enjoy watching movies then this is a must to watch.
Here's the thing about Clockwork Orange: I respect it.
I do.
But when it comes to movies, I'm more about entertainment. Sure, a lot of movies I love are chalk full of violence and disturbing imagery, but they usually have a protagonist/conflict that is to be solved. And even if the story doesn't end well for the good guy, it can still be an excellent story, original and thought provoking, but entertaining.
But Clockwork is straight up disturbing, and that's the point.
There is no good guy here. And there never was meant to be. Its all about violence, degradation, and disturbing imagery. And it gets its point across just fine. In fact, its shot very well, and its acted with talent, and the writing does what it set out to achieve.
But it doesn't need more than one viewing. Its just a trip through a psychopaths thoughts, with no redemption, and no conflict. Just him being insane, never really getting help or anything.
So its not very entertaining, a disturbing piece of film, and again, that's the point, but what's the point? Exactly, there is really no point, just to show how violence is prominent in our world. And it shows that, but I don't see how its a classic film... its actually pretty damn boring.
After about half an hour of the mindless violence, you sit back, get used to it and start to to get bored and have to ask "is it over yet?" but it isn't, it'll be rehashed over and over again, trying to beat "violence is a problem" into your head with beating after beating. It gets to the point where watching it starts to be a chore of boredom, and you just want to watching something else.
Watching this movie was like riding an insane roller coaster with breathtaking ups and downs, short funny sequences followed by shocking and disturbing images, humorous absurd Monty Python-esque scenes followed by strange paranoid visions of a Kafkian/Orwellian-type future, all wrapped up in the chords of Beethoven's fine music and accompanied by Shakespearean-like dialogue mixed with common expressions and slang.I think the movie resembles its main character.Alex is a good looking, charming, bold young man, with a passion for Beethoven but he's also a despicable being, ruthless, aggressive and vicious,a psychopath who enjoys violence in all its forms...until the Ludovico treatment. Brainwashed, mentally castrated, conditioned to feel nausea and pain whenever he has a violent or sexual impulse but unable to make moral choices,he becomes a vulnerable, helpless man,a big bad wolf turned into an innocent naive lamb.Malcolm McDowell was perfect for the role,he had the right look,a perverted mix of childish ingenuity and chilling cruelty,he played it great! It's a story about crime and punishment, redemption and free will (there is no redemption without free will),good and evil (right and wrong),moral and immoral behavior,a story about the vicious circle of violence-the aggressor becomes victim, the victims becomes aggressors and so on,an intriguing blend of satire, social commentary, allegory, drama,sci-fi and absurd black comedy. It was highly controversial when released, its impact has been diminished over the years, there are far more disturbing movies out there today but it's still a great movie,I can't say I enjoyed it or disliked it...it made me think about human nature and society and it surely was an experience to remember...
This is a great film by Kubrick and 1 of my favourites. Although it is over 30 years it still looks good today. This is due to the genius of Kubrick himself and is even more fantastic considering the low budget he had. This is disturbing, dark and violent masterpiece that is also intrigueing and a work of art. Malcolm MacDowell was perfectly cast as Alex the violent leader of a gang of droogs who once is imprisoned is subjected to a nasty form of behavior-modification therapy. The question is was he cured or not. He says "I was cured" but it is up to you to decide how that is meant
This is a brilliantly made film, but I just felt it was too cold for me. I didn't enjoy it, but it is a good film.

This movie is one of the best movies ever, next to Sin City. I tried to read the book but never finished.
it's on tonight on TCM at 12.35. sky channel 319, virgin channel 419, topup channel 25.
I'd honestly have to say this movie affected me more than Citizen Kane and Casablanca did. In my eyes, this is the best movie. Can Stanley Kubrick and Malcolm McDowell be any better of a pair? Anthony conceived a masterpiece of literature. Kubrick did the same but in film.
I love this movie. The use of color is amazing and so is the music. I even love the whole storyline of it! These guys are nuts but this movie still rocks!
One of my favorites. I love to watch it over and over. A Kubrick masterpiece.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!! GREAT AWSOME MUSIC!! AND MALCOLM IS AWSOME!!! :D
I'm tempted to be rather simplistic about this critique and just murmur 'it sucked' and leave it at that. This film is supposedly Kubrick's 'artistic' attempt at movie perfection. I say, supposedly, because for me (and me is all that matters in a critique that I'm writing) it not only was a deplorable attempt at 'artistry' it is a movie I think you can accurately judge someone's intelligence by. As a fan of The Shining, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, I'm saddened to impose such a harsh critique of a man who apparently has it in him to make otherwise great movies. There are very few movies that have been able to affect my mood the way this one did, regrettably I don't mean this as praise. This 'imaginative' crap sent my mood tail spinning for the remainder of the day. The only reason I can think of as to why I'd be so deeply affected was because I know there are a lot of people who love this movie and purportedly 'get it'. Who are these people? If you are amongst its fans- you scare me, and that is deeply depressing. I'll admit it's rare for a movie to inspire so much hate. Thank you Gio for playing this crap and impinging upon one of my rare Saturday's off
So good it was ahaead of its time. Lovely visuals (psychedelic schemes) yet comical too (A record store in 1995)Appropriate concept for the time and today, should violence really be fought with violence? What will the result product be? Will it go around like a clock? I could write on and on about this movie. It is surley worth all you're pretty polly.
