Not a huge, over the top, fan of Portman's, yet she was certainly wonderful opposite Reno and Oldman.

one of the greatest shows in my opinion. Greatest hitman shows. The action was amazing, already from the first few scenes we can see that. Natalie Portman was bloody amaaazzing in this one. So's Jean Reno and Gary Oldman of course. Three of them made this film worth watching. And oh, the whole storyline too. Everything is very, very nicely done.

Leon is an immigrant hit-man who works for an Italian guy named Tony. He lives a lonely life only his plant accompanying him in his solace. His seemingly desolate life takes a screeching right turn when a neighboring family gets killed by crooked DEA agents. Only poor Mathilda survived the onslaught so Leon reluctantly takes her under his wing teaching her his skills as an assassin so Mathilda can exact revenge to the agents.

Jean Reno plays hit-man Leon in this captivating tale of self discovery and finding that one person who gives you a taste of life. Director Luc Besson created a masterpiece. His style is unique, the flow of the story never gets in your nerves instead it gets in your heart. In the earlier parts of the film, the character Leon is established as a stone cold contract killer but as the film progresses, we realize that he is as gentle as a puppy dog. Mathilda gave him a reason to live and rediscover life again. She had given him and I quote "A taste of life".

Superb acting from a then young Natalie Portman, Gary Oldman as the crooked DEA agent Stan was creepy as hell (as in every of his role). An interesting character sure and he's the yang of Leon's yin (or vice versa whatever). He likes his walkman (no iPod back then), he likes Beethoven...and Mozart. And he gets in a trance-like funk whenever he takes his green loopy pills. Leon on the other hand is excellently portrayed by Jean Reno. He too, is an interesting character and he will go down as one of the most memorable hit-man in cinema history. He likes his milk, he wears knitted bonnets because he can't afford to catch a cold and he has mastered the art of killing efficiently. A beast that was tamed by an 18 year old girl...13. Just like what Ann Darrow is to King Kong.

Rest assured the ending will make you sad. "Leon" is a memorable film to be remembered from here to eternity.

The Professional is one great action film, yet is has a really touching side. There are some really great moments in the film, and it is one of the best hitman/mafia kinda films I've seen in a very long time. Gary Oldman is again, amazing. There was one part in the film where he scream that really captivates the mood. Natalie Portman is one of my favorite actresses and this he pretty much her first film and she is superb in it. I really like the relationship between Portman and Reno. This film is great on many levels and should be seen by anyone who loves a great action film.

This movie sets in the US but is very "French". And sometimes I feel like it is a Western because almost every scene sets in the afternoon when the sun is the brightest. I have never experienced anything like this before. It simply has a style of its own.

Another really boring story. I picked it up thinking it was about a hitman. It was, but who cares about a hitmans feelings I wanna see him killing people the whole movie. 5 stars to Natalie Portman though, amazing performance especially for being so young.

One of the all time best Action Adventure / Drama films ever made. This film is powerful, graphic and well put together. Jean Reno delivers a well played extremely adept assassin with simple quirky tendencies. Gary Oldman puts on a perfectly played drugged up sleezebag DEA agent on the take a capable of murder. Natalie Portman's well acted character must overcome the death of her family by learning to dispense both death and love from the hired killer next door. This rates as one of my top ten films ever made. Luc Besson Director of La Femme Nikita (American Remake - Point of no return), The Fifth Element delivers a outstanding, memorable film.

Out of the thousands of movies I have seen. This one had the biggest impact on me. It made me laugh, cry, cheer, and took me on a thrill ride. Natalie Portman's first role as a homeless and broken 12 year old is very moving and Jean Reno plays Leon with prestige. With Gary Oldman aas a corrupt cop creating havoc amongst the city, Leon and Matilda seek revenge against him for the murder of Matilda's drug dealing family. WATCH IT.

I have finally got round to seeing this and watched the extended version. This is a great film about the relationship between a Hitman and a 12 year old girl left orphaned after her family is killed. It is violent without being too graphic or brutal. This is nothing like your typical action, assassin film and has some great scenes between the two lead characters. A little strange but a classic and I'm not surprised it has reached a cult status.

A fantastic action packed thriller set in the heart of "Charm City" ,yes the town so nice they named it twice; New York, New York.
Luc Besson delivers big time with this riveting tale of corruption, murder, loss and love. Dominated by outstanding performances by Jean Reno as the assassin Leon and Gary Oldman as the corrupt, murderous DEA agent Stansfield, and in her film debut Natalie Portman as the captivating Mathilda.
Oldman portays on the screen one of cinemas most unforgettable villains while at the same time Besson paints a memorable love story amidst the carnage.

    Amazing movie...
Leon (Jean Reno) is a tortured soul. He lives in squalor and misery, never truly happy or at peace with himself. After all, he is a hitman. He lives quietly from kill to kill, harming no-one whom he has not been paid to assassinate. He is a simplistic, childlike man who lives by his own set of morals but is troubled by them. The one thing he seems to fear above all else is change.
Mathilda (Natalie Portman) is Leon's neighbour. A young girl, she lives with her father, step-mother, half-sister and half-brother. As unhappy as Leon, she lives in awe of the dark stranger, unaware of his true profession. Beaten by her parents and sister, she has abandoned school and instead spends the day watching cartoons and trying to escape from the real world.
When Mathilda's family is brutally murdered by a drug crazed Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman), her only chance for survival is to hide with her neighbour. When she learns of Leon's true identity, she becomes infatuated with both him, and the grim world he inhabits.
This stark portrayal of humanity and inhumanity is produced with the style and finesse that one expects from Luc Besson. In addition, the combined talents of Jean Reno, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman provide not only an unmatched on-screen chemistry, but also three perfectly created characterizations, the like of which are rarely seen in today's cinema. This film has my personal recommendation of being the best piece of cinema that I know of. I have not seen anything that matches it in terms of intensity or emotion - and believe me, I've looked. I found myself caring for the characters involved, an unique experience in itself. This is not the type of film for a night in with your mates, but nevertheless, it is an unforgettable piece of cinematic history.
    I enjoyed that.

I loved the movie and the immoral lovely Leon-Mathilda affection. Every single actor was to me perfect in his role, Gary Oldman terribly frightening by his too real attitude, Leon so sincerely touching and Mathilda of course. I loved how, in a world of no limits where the cops crossed the fragile frontier of law, the hit man becomes, regardless of acknowledged morals, the good man. Though some people once told me they considered this film as a light " scandal" (the word is strong) because based "on an immoral belief", I do not see where is the immorality in a nice killer when he is the most human element of a disturbed world. Even though I doubt it can be one of the best movies I saw, I add it to my favorites...

This movie is genious. It is disturbing, but comforting. It is funny, yet cruel. I loved every aspect of this film, not to mention every member of the cast had totally believable and powerful acting. Gary Oldman was spellbinding, I loved it. You must rent this. Actually, go buy it, you'll love it to pieces.
