Plot: The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA.
This movie is now my favourite. (Apart from Moulin Rouge of Course!) The singing isn't brilliant (And believe me I know) but to me that makes it more real. If you want to see a film about Abba and Abba sound-a-likes, then this isn't for you. I never liked Abba or their music very much. But since seeing this film, I have the soundrack on loop. And I've seen the film on the big screen 3 times - including the sing-a-long version. This is definately a film for the girlies.
Pretty good. Watching Pierce sometimes was a little embarrassing. The music was good, the scenery was better. LOVED Colin Firth acting all fruity!!!! Meryl is God! She can do no wrong.
yes i watch it and i'm sorry to say i liked it. it was done well and very funny and the songs where great you got james bond singing i'm in.
nice musical movie!!! fantastic voice!! i love the bride.. although i still wonder the real father is?
Muito divertido.apetece saltar da cadeira e dançar e cantar ao ritmo doa ABBA.Merece uma continuação com mais sucessos não usados.
Amanda looks like a Mermaid..hehe.. The view was so beautiful, their voice are good except Pierce Brosnan :p
Overall its a very fun movie with a good song.. :)
I had a lot of expectations about this film, I have to say I was a bit disappointed... I absolutely loved the music because...well, ABBA is ABBA and their songs make you really want to dance, laugh and enjoy life, but I think the movie (being wonderfully supported by the songs) was a bit weak as far as the plot is concerned. Meryl Streep is one of my favourite actresses and she was very good, she had, as well as all the other actors, the necessary irony to play her part. The colours were wonderful and I think it's a pity that here in Italy this absolutely summery film has been released in October: I bet I would have liked it much more in Summer! I'm going to watch it again, I'm sure I will enjoy it much more!
Mi escena favorita: Meryl Streep and the girls singing and dancing " Dancing Queen" y la escena final con Julie Walters y el elenco completo cantando " Take a Chance". I strongly recommend this movie, y como dice en el trailer...it'll keep the audience dancing in the aisles of the cinemas
this is really grt!!! although the singing wasnt that fantastic, the movie still made me laughed so much since it was quite spastic at times! grt watch i must say! abba rox!
These old songs became better as performed by these excellent actors and actresses. Meryl Streep is again unbelievable.
Ah, super divertido, vai! A trilha sonora é demais, adoro Abba... E a Meril Streep está sensacional. Podia exibir numa pista de dança! =P
Musical movies is not quite my fav genre to watch but i gave this is a chance despite that. And there are many famous actors which seem promised aswell. Meryl Streep did a nice role and sang her songs really nice. The guys singing scenes were a bit under average but decent overall and luckly not many of those. The movie it self other than the music part are a romantic comedy with a fair lighthearted story. If you enjoy musicals go ahead..
its a funny movie..it made me wanna sing and dance too with the casts..coz i really love the songs of ABBA ever since..meryll done a fantastic number in singing "THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL"..I LOVE IT! I really enjoyed watching it.
3 men and a bride + Meryl Streep who I thought was so hot that she stole the show from the 23 year old star, the one on the cover, the one with all the screen time, Amanda Seyfried, who was just in Daytime soaps only 5 years ago. Congradts!
This is a fun musical. Unfortunately for me, the music does not stand alone, but I thought it fit the movie well. I liked it.
I loved the scene where all the women are coming down out of the town and singing and dancing together to Dancing Queen.
But near the end there is a scene where Meryl Streep is singing to Pierce Brosnan and she is singing and her breasts are heaving and I thought there was going to be some sort of wardrobe malfunction. I was excited and anxious - lol.
THe movie was very good, the only bad thing was that she you never get to know who her real dad is...
You went to the theater with great expectation. Who won't? With the big actors on the cast such Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. But the truth is the braodway musical is much better and more entertaining.
I absolutely LOVED it!! I saw the play in Dallas last year and the movie follows the same lines as the play and i plan on purchasing the DVD when it comes out. The CD is awesome. If you like musicals this is a must see, if not it is worth it just for the music.
Fab Movie Absolutly Loved It Cant Wait For It To Be Released On DVD
BET THEY HAD SO MUCH FUN MAKING THIS MOVIE
love the part where Meryl Streep sang Mamma Mia in the roof top... the plot of this movie was breath taking,
since i first heard about this i wanted to watch it and it didnt disapointment me
one of the best films/musicals ive seen
great cast, great storyline the songs fit in so well with the film one of the highlights of 2008 10/10 :)
Wonderful, ironic and well acted! It makes me wanna stand up and dance singing out loud!!! Fantastic and full of energy!
I had my reservations when I went to see this movie with one of my friends. I had read online that it had some content I wouldn't really appreciate. On the other hand, I was really excited about the ABBA music, because I've been a fan of them since I was little. (I blame it on my dad!) As it turns out, I shouldn't have worried. A few minutes into the film, I was stuck. It was so entertaining to watch! The actors and actresses really got into their performances and I could tell that they were having a great time doing it. Because of that, I also had a lot of fun! This film was humorous, exciting, upbeat, tragic, and dramatic all at once.. That's the best word for it.
It was a great idea to cast Meryl Streep as Donna and Amanda Seyfried as Sophie. While Streep is an actress first and a singer later, I was very impressed with her vocals, especially in "The Winner Takes it All." I could feel the heartbreak coming out in her voice. Seyfried's voice is clear, sweet and beautiful to listen to. I also think it was an inspired idea to cast Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, and Stellan Skarsgard as the three potential fathers. It was so funny to see them interact with everybody! Firth was by far my favorite! He revealed that he was gay in the end, but he really can't pull that off, in my opinion! and Pierce Brosnan can't sing, but he did a great job otherwise! Even though there was some vulgar stuff in this film, I thought it was great. Next time, though, I'll probably edit out half of the things Donna's two raunchy friends say!
It is fun and humourous. But the show did not bring the fun to the audience... the fun ends as e show ends.
In my mind, this movie had a lot of negatives to overcome: Christine Baranski, Meryl Streep singing, a cast that didn't exactly scream "hit", ...the music of ABBA, for pete's sake! But as difficult as it is to say, I'll say it....
I am a heterosexual male, and I enjoyed Mamma Mia!
There's plenty to like - Amanda Seyfried's infectious joy (and beauty), the stunning Greek isle scenery, and yes, the music. It won me over practically from the start. The positives far outweighed the negatives - in fact, the negatives turned out not to be.
Abba's music never did much for me as pop songs, but in the context of a musical, they work quite well. There are a couple numbers I think could have been left out, specifically Baranski's "Does Your Mother Know" and Streep and Brosnan's "Winner Takes It All", but even those weren't bad.
The singing is good pretty much across the board. Even the weakest singer, Pierce Brosnan, did a surprisingly good job. His voice has a certain Peter Gabriel quality to it (with a dash of Randy Newman).
For those friends of mine that refuse to see anything not considered a "manly" movie (and you know who you are), skip it. But for everyone else, take a chance on Mamma Mia. You may find yourself tapping your toes and smiling along.
so funny..&full of singing&dancing..
The soundtracks is from ABBA's song..
It's a Really Good Movie to watch in theater..would be better to watch in cinemas then in DVD.. ^ ^

cute movie, but I was not impressed with Meryl Streep at all!!! this was not the part for her, someone else should have played the part!
funny movie and I love ABBA's music, but Pierce Brosnan can't sing and it bugged me.
I really enjoyed this movie - I would so defidently go and see it again.
Just got back from seeing it----GREAT!! I love musicals and this one didn't disappoint. Little too cheesy in parts and Pierce Brosnan it hard to take but other than that, very enjoyable!
absolutly brilliant! loved it soooo much- gonna go and see it again soon!!!
