An awesome movie. Equally as good and as dark as the last Batman film - Batman Begins. I am still heart-broken that Heath Ledger is now deceased. Deep down I refuse to believe it. His performance as the Joker was amazing.

This movie surpasses it's prequel! Even without the untimely death of Heath Ledger, this film is poignant and touching. This wouldn't have been half the film it is if anyone else had played the role of the Joker! Heath made the role his own and unfortunaely paid the price. I don't think Maggie Gyllenhall played her role to the best of her ability, there didn't seem to be any chemistry between her character and Bruce/Batman. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine quietly simmering in their roles. Pure genious.

The caped crusader is back, darker and even more spectacular than his previous adventure, and thanks to Christopher Nolan's inventiveness, the most far-fetched elements of the comic and the orgiastic action seem grounded in reality, hence overpowering. It's not a movie that builds a bridge to a climactic conclusion, but the climax is constant, however, sometimes that could distance oneself from the story rather than excite. The fight scenes suffer the same flaw, because of Nolan's blurry staccato style.
Heath Ledger's maniacal Joker is by far the best among the goods that this massive roller coaster offers.

Absolutely brilliant movie and thus far is undoubtedly the movie of 2008 that you just have to see.

Heath Ledger as The Joker is that good its unbelievable and its sad he couldn't be still here to enjoy the success the film would have given him in the future.

The only reason I didn't give this movie 5 stars was I really didn't like Batman's suit in the film, in fact I though it was horrendous to say the least. Added to that Christian Bale's (Bruce Wayne/Batman) best work only came when in scenes with good friend Heath.

Highly enjoyable. Everybody should definitely see this movie and see it more than once. It is that good. I thought it was that good I saw it 3 times and I have never seen a movie in the cinemas more than once.

RIP HEATH LEDGER. WE WILL MISS YOU!

okay this is an amazing movie and actually i rate it the same as batman begins which was a breath of fresh air for so many reasons(taking a realistic approach towards comic book movies)well casted .... i protested the ledger being the joker at the first but after seeing his performance ... i know now what nolan seen in ledger and why he cast him , in his own words he was "fearless" in the role.. but with nods to nicholsons joker as well... i like it just as much as burton's batman .... and also i hate how all the fanboys voted on imdb to make the dark knight the number 1 movie ... is it better then the godfather oh hells no!!!!!

Harvey Dent: You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain

Wow. Just wow. And I thought Batman Begins is the epitome of comic book movies. The Dark Knight isn't just the best comic book film ever, its one of the best films to have come out in recent memory. Everything in it is amazingly done and in tip-top shape. From the out-of-this-world acting to the heart pounding musical score courtesy of elite scorers James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. Every little bit worked in the film's advantage and not one bit seemed annoying or dragged. The story is near damn poetic especially the end parts where Batman had to make a big decision for the betterment of Gotham city. To avoid spoiling the film, I will only say this: the ending is epic. Though there were a couple of questions left unanswered like what will happen to Harvey Dent and since Heath's untimely death, what will become of The Joker in the 3rd installment?

Speaking of the late great Heath Ledger, his portrayal of The Joker is beyond words. It was much hyped even before its release and some were highly speculating that he might get a posthumous Oscar for this one. Well, along with the millions of people on this side of Earth, I think he really, really deserves it. The Oscars must be high up their asses if they pass up this one. If an Oscar won't work because of the film's mainstream status, at least have the heart to recognize it. Heath Ledger went away with a bang and he deserves all the praise he gets. It was a darker, mature and grittier version than Nicholson's comical performance in the Tim Burton film. Granted, Nicholson's performance was stellar that is until Heath Ledger came into the picture. Ledger's Joker makes Nicholson's look like a mascot for a Disney ride. His Joker is a walking hell on Earth and his devilish philosophies and ideas will make you cower in absolute fear. I'm so glad Nolan left out the origin idea for The Joker because if they did, the mystery and creepy factor of the character will turn down a notch. It won't be as "absolute" as planned. Every scene with Ledger's Joker is hellacious and watching it on IMAX is a thousand times more hellacious. His Joker is near perfection his portrayal easily catapults the character as one of the best movie villains of all time. He takes the top spot alongside Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter, Star Wars' Darth Vader and Spacey's John Doe. And to tell you the truth, if I think of The Dark Knight, one enduring image is imprinted on my mind: The Joker with his head sticking out a police car with no audible sound in the background. That's it right there, I knew I had to give this film a 5. The theater went silent for a while because that scene was just too much to handle. Ledger's maniacal portrayal combined with Nolan's masterful skills, its a match made in heaven.

Of course its not all Joker with this film. The titular hero portrayed by Hollywood thespian Christian Bale, need I say more? He's the guy you can trust to amazingly portray dark and gritty characters. And yes I think he's the best Batman, no doubt Keaton's was excellent and Kilmer's was just "eh?" and don't start with Clooney, I'm still not over with those Bat Nipples. But Christian Bale is the embodiment of Bruce Wayne. Just as much as Heath Ledger is The Joker, the same thing applies with Christian Bale. He is Batman, he is Bruce Wayne.

And then there's Aaron Eckhart. He superbly portrays District Attorney Harvey Dent and fiendishly embodies his menacing alter-ego Two-Face. This is the first time I've seen Eckhart do a serious dramatic role, his previous films were either cheeky love stories or cheeky comedy flicks or a combination of both. Not that I'm getting tired of him seeing in those films but every actor needs to tread uncharted territory to prove their versatility and I think Mr. Eckhart just did that here. His Two-Face makes Tommy Lee Jones' portrayal in Schumacher's appalling rendition a big hunk of fecal matter. And man, for a PG-13 of a film, Two-Face's ugly side is gory-licious to the umpteenth dimension.

The remaining actors should be proud too. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, they were all amazing. A wise move for Nolan to replace horrendous Katie Holmes for Maggie "Sherrybaby" Gyllenhaal. Her character's fate in the film saddens me but you see...it's all...part of the plan.

The Dark Knight is the best film of 2008. There is no "so-far", there is no "to date". This is the best film of 2008 hands down no questions asked bar none. You're missing out a lot if you still haven't seen this one. I suggest you go now. Like, now.

    ***GREAT MOVIE***
In the movie the Joker says: "This town deserves a better class of criminals.", so do movies from now on.
No doubt that The Dark Knight is the director's movie and Christopher Nolan has done a very good job and gets a lot much credit for writing and directing this masterpiece (yes it's a masterpiece, didn't I tell it yet?) but the key part of the movie success is Heath Ledger's stunning performance as the Joker. This is No-Method maniac the way he plays. He elevates the standard of acting to a higher level.
Beware of this sinister joker guy he has no rules and carries out some "social experiment" during the movie to prove deep down inside everyone is as evil as him. He is not simply "sadistic". He has his own philosophical attitude. He calls himself "agent of chaos" which is the consequences of Batman's (the good decent person) efforts to clean up the city. Although the lines are written for him by the script writers but it's Heath Ledger's breath-taking unbelievable performance which makes this comic book character alive and believable.
And I just want to mention Christopher Nolan's great deed to create such a dark-dark world of a comic book story and makes it almost realistic.

After I saw Batman Begins, I became so obsess with movie. Batman Begins was my favorite batman movie, superhero movie and my favorite all-time. For some time, I had mix feelings about the movie when I heard The Joker was the villain. The reason was because I hated The Joker in the original batman movie. When I saw the first photo of Heath Ledger as The Joker, I then became obsess with The Dark Knight. Then I finally walked to the theater and I was blown away when I left the theater.

After cleaning most of the streets in Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale) is finally set to finish the job in Gotham City. With the help of Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent/Two Face (Aaron Eckhart) things look better than ever in Gotham until The Joker (Heath Ledger) sends total chaos back in Gotham. Batman is force to cross the line between hero and vigilante that leads to an ultimate showdown between The Joker and Batman.

The story in The Dark Knight is so much better than Batman Begins. There are so many great themes in the movie that people and the world can relate to. Another thing I love about the story is that there is all kind of emotions in it. It was an absolutely thrill ride from the beginning to the end.

The performances in the film are one of the best I?ve seen this year. After seeing Christian Bale in Batman Begins, I thought he was the best batman yet and he has proved it again in The Dark Knight. Bale did a great job playing Bruce Wayne?s multiple personalities. Heath Ledger was absolutely astounding as The Joker. This is The Joker that I wanted to see in a long time. Ledger stole the whole movie and he is on my list for best movie villain. I won?t be surprised if he doesn?t get an Oscar, but he needs some kind of award for his performance. Your performance will be forever remembered. I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was great as Rachel Dawes and better than Katie Holmes in BB. But I still think she did a good in BB, unlike others, they she was horrible. Also new in the cast is Aaron Eckhart aka Harvey Dent/Two Face. I really like his acting as Harvey Dent, Two Face was even better. I didn?t expect that much from Eckhart, but he did shocked me and fans and did an amazing job.

The action scenes in the movie are awesome. In my opinion, the Batpod chase scene was the best of all. I wasn?t really sure about the Batpod before watching the film, but after seeing it on the big screen; I couldn?t keep eyes off the damn thing. It is such a cool looking ride.

The Dark Knight is the best superhero movie of the century and the darkest of the century. Heath Ledger performance was mind-blowing, terrifying, and fun as hell as The Joker. In my opinion, He is the best villain of all time. The ending really sets the tone for the whole movie and the music was so amazing. I say bring another installment even if it can?t top The Dark Knight. A great story will do it for me.

,,the joker: you have nothing, nothing to threaten me with. nothing to do with all your strength!"
the dark knight, probably the best movie of the year... i need to watch it one more time before i decide if it' s the best film of the year, but certainly, it' s a 5 star movie! christopher nolan' s masterpiece is one hell of a movie! every second is full of suspense, and that makes the dark knight one of the most intense and dynamic movies ever. pure adrenaline, punch, shoot, blow up, cut, and everything, in the fastest way possible. the dark knight has a brilliant cast (the best after the cast of sin city). i mean, christian bale (brilliant as usual), heath ledger (outstanding performance), aaron eckhart (incredible, i never imagined he is so good), gary oldman (amazing), michael caine (extraordinary), maggie gyllenhaal (she was good, but the chemistry between her character and bruce was simply 0), morgan freeman (great as usual), eric roberts (very good), monique curnen, ritchie coster, nestor carbonell, cillian murphy, michael jai white, william fichtner and many more! and when you think, all of them delivered performances... wow!, words can' t describe their work... of course, you will become bored if i will tell you that bale delivered another outstanding performance; i mean, bale is born to be the best, but when you see heath ledger saying a memorable quote, moving his lips and tongue and that expression on his face, like ,,i' m the joker, i don' t destroy gotham city for money, i just want to put a smile on your face" (this is not a quote from the film, but i think you already know that), you have to be either really stupid, either mad, to say you don' t give a shit about it! you cry, or not, maybe you laugh, you acclaim heath, you laugh like him, but you do something! in the dark knight, the joker is the center of attention! another strong element of the dark knight is the exploration of the characters! nolan digs deep to show us their true personality; while bruce is the symbol of good, and batman protects at all costs the ones he loves, the joker acts, dresses and simply is the psycho with no soul, completely gone, thinking just at the pleasure of killing, destroying and showing batman that people are ugly in their souls and they really live in a world of anarchy. and this is the truth; gotham city is a city where chaos rules! there are rules, rules of society, but with the mob and the criminals, no one is brave enough to respect those rules! what harvey dent is, it' s something that batman could never be; he represents the good in gotham, but wears no mask! that' s why the people need harvey. batman can protect them, but only at night, and he is cleaning the streets hiding behind a false black face (the mask). but, back at heath, i can' t even speak about his make-up! you can see it for yourself, absolutely amazing, no words could make his character better! he just is the strangest character in batman series (and the are a lot of weird guys, especially the scarecrow), and in my top 50 of my favorite serial killers, he' s the second one after jack the ripper. he is a criminal mastermind, prepared to destroy a hospital, an entire police station or kill a mob family, alone, just using his brain and brilliant plans! because, let' s admit it, joker is no venom or carnage, neither a batman of darkness; with limited strength, he always seeks help in his mind and figures a new way of escaping. another plus it' s the cinematography. the camera angles are simply beautiful! the costumes are also extraordinary and the bat - mobile fits perfect with batman as the lamborghini fits perfect with bruce! the lighting effects are great and the score is made by hans zimmer, so it' s, of course, provoking, intense and very good. i will not forget the visual effects, that were spectacular and represented adrenaline at perfection! the script is well - written, the dialogues are very good, memorable and still with a surprise between the words or with a hidden message behind a line. the dark knight is one of the few movies that have a beginning and an ending so well paced. i will tell more about the story later, after a fresh second viewing. in a year with faded performances, heath ledger' s portrayal on the joker is not just phenomenal, but represents the light that could save this year, poor in movies. conclusion? the dark knight is a great movie, but even if it' s better than a movie from my top 6, the dark knight will never be in my top 6 because i simply do not like batman more than spider - man, for example! nolan' s masterpiece, bale' s masterpiece (as always) and ledger' s masterpiece!
    R.I.P. HEATH LEDGER

tis film is one of the main reasons that this has been one of the best years to be a comic fan.i dont like people judging this movie just on heath ledger's performance(which is amazing by the way). there is more to this movie. the story is excellent as it reflects today's society.this goes against a major argument against superhero's "I cant relate to them". this movie makes it very asy to relate. it alos doesn't paint batman as a saint which is good, he is a necessary force in gotham. also interesting to see him try to save the day in daylight as bruce wayne.amazing movie.

heath ledger just left a legacy which will be hard to break for anyone trying to play the villain. His sadistic and creepy twist to the movie just made it genius...and the whole two face drama is worth every penny. Christian Bale and his fantastic cast really pulled it off. And I really respect the fact that they did not kill off the joker but left him hanging in the air to show that the joker still lives..viva for ever

OMG!!!! This movie was really good. I'm obsessed with Batman. My other fave batman movie was the one with the riddler (jim carrey). That was soooo funny. Did anyone here that Johnny Depp might be doing the new Riddler??? He won't replace Jim but he will do a good job.
